SHEPHERD’S PIE

Shepherd’s Pie has been a family favorite for many years. It’s a delicious meal that’s roasted until golden brown and contains minced lamb or beef topped with a bed of creamy mashed potatoes. It was common in Ireland and the United Kingdom to use leftover Sunday roasts as the basis for this meal.

Many changes and modifications have been made to the original recipe over time to suit a wide range of tastes.

You can use ground lamb or beef to make shepherd’s pie, as well as onions, carrots, peas, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, tomato paste, and various herbs and spices, including thyme, rosemary, and garlic.

Brown the meat independently while the vegetables are sautéed until tender. Once the flavors have blended, mix the two into the sauce and bring to a simmer.

Then mashed potatoes are prepared with butter, milk and spices.

Ingredients:

°2 pounds peeled potatoes cut into small pieces.

°1/2 cup of milk.

°4 tablespoons of unsalted butter.

°1 lb. Minced lamb or beef.

°2 pounds peeled potatoes cut into small pieces.

°1/2 cup of milk.

°4 tablespoons of unsalted butter.

°1 lb. Minced lamb or beef.

°1 chopped onion.

°2 peeled and sliced carrots.

°1 cup frozen peas,

°2 cloves of garlic; section.

°2 tablespoons of tomato paste.

°2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce.

°1 c beef broth.

°1 tsp dried thyme.

°1 tsp of dried rosemary.

°Salt & pepper to taste.

Preparation:

The first step

We raise the oven temperature to 375 degrees.

The second phase

In a large saucepan, boil chopped potatoes in salted water. Cook for about 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender, the water is well drained and the potatoes are mashed with the milk and butter until smooth. Put aside.

The third step

In a large skillet, cook ground beef or beef over medium heat until browned. Drain off excess fat and set the meat aside.

The fourth step

In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion and carrot over medium heat until soft and tender, also add the garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Fifth step

Return the cooked meat to the skillet with the vegetables. Add the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, gravy, dried thyme and dried rosemary and season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Sixth step

Bring to a boil and cook for 10-15 minutes until the sauce has thickened and the flavors have mixed. My heart is frozen peas.

Step seven

Pour the meat mixture into a large baking dish and spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top. And using a fork, make bumps on top of the mashed potatoes. This will create a crunchy surface when cooking.

Eighth step

Bake in a preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the surface is golden brown and the filling is bubbly, then remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.

Step nine

Serve hot shepherd’s pie and savor the delicious, comforting flavors of this traditional dish!

Enjoy !
